Machine-vision algorithms derived from material signatures offer advantages compared to algorithms based on conventional imagery alone. AOT polarimeters have high sensitivity and selectivity for oriented materials including fiber composites, textiles, and plastics, which can be classified at high speed and arbitrary range. Finding plastics for example is important for debris and pollution mapping, search & rescue, sorting, and inspection of agricultural media and foodstocks. Additional signature features introduced by stress or damage can be exploited for failure analysis and quality control of industrial packaging.
